Taylor Swift endorses Kamala Harris after Presidential Debate

Minutes after the presidential debate wrapped up on Tuesday, Sept. 10, popular singer and songwriter Taylor Swift posted on Instagram endorsing Kamala Harris for president.

This follows the previous backlash Swift faced from fans just a few days earlier at the U.S. Open. Swift was under fire for hugging and spending time with Brittany Mahomes, wife of Kansas City Chiefs player Patrick Mahomes. Brittany Mahomes had recently defended former president Trump on social media.

The pop star opened up her statement on Instagram by addressing former President Trump’s AI-generated posts featuring false endorsements from Swift and her fans.

The statement continues with Swift discussing Harris and Walz. “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”

Swift signed off by calling herself a “childless cat lady” which is a clapback to JD Vance’s comments on women who do not have children. The post also includes a photo of Swift holding her pet cat.

Along with Swift’s Instagram post endorsing Harris, she also shared a link to vote.gov on her Instagram story. According to NBC News, “The General Services Administration, which oversees the website, confirmed to NBC News that as of 2 p.m. ET Wednesday, 337,826 people had visited a custom URL that Swift posted on Instagram when she announced she was endorsing Harris.”

The post has now surpassed 11 million likes and continues to grow.
