With cold and flu season on the horizon, students should be aware of the resources on campus here to keep them safe from illnesses.
Students can get flu shots on campus. “We understand that students need access to the Flu shot,” said Kara Maxsimic, the associate director of Health Services, in an email to The Ramapo News. “So we have a limited number of doses here on campus.”
Maxsimic is a certified family nurse practitioner who can tend to a variety of illnesses on campus.
She also notes that Health services will continue to offer flu shots annually to students, each vaccine costing $30 with the cost being billed to the student’s account.
“I think it … Allows for accessibility for everyone,” said senior nursing major Josh Verdun. “It’s great for people who can’t drive.”
Verdun added that offering flu shots on campus is a great convenience to residents.
Maxsimic notes that the best way to stay healthy during flu season is to sleep and eat well, as well as wash your hands often. “We are already seeing flu cases around campus,” said Maxsimic.
Sometimes, however, you can not avoid getting sick, especially during cold and flu season. “If students do feel unwell, particularly with a fever, they should stay home until symptoms begin to improve and they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of medication,” said Maxsimic. Health Services is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
