Mark Robinson has been in numerous headlines recently for his far-right conservative stances on popular issues and for previous postings made on a porn site.
But who is this North Carolina politician?
Mark Robinson is the current Republican Gubernatorial Candidate for North Carolina, a battleground state this election season. He will face off against Democratic Candidate Josh Stein in November.
Robinson’s career in politics took off in 2018, and he very quickly cemented his stance as a conservative by supporting gun rights following the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that same year. Robinson’s political career accelerated as he won the spot of Lt. Governor for North Carolina and announced his bid for governor now that the current governor has reached his term limit.
This has caused concern amongst Republicans regarding whether or not Robinson’s statements will impact the presidential election as well.
In recent weeks, he has made headlines for past vulgar statements that have resurfaced. His comments range from insulting Former President Obama, preferring Hitler to him, and demeaning Martin Luther King Jr. — Robinson has vehemently denied these statements.
This has caused concern amongst Republicans regarding whether or not Robinson’s statements will impact the presidential election as well.
North Carolina is a battleground state this election season, and in 2020 went red in support of former president Donald Trump by a relatively slim margin. Robinson has famously endorsed Donald Trump, and Trump has proudly endorsed Robinson. With the election looming close, many in the Republican party are worried that Robinson’s resurfaced comments may lose him the race in North Carolina, and in turn potentially damage Trump’s campaign in the state.
