TikTok star turned pop princess Nessa Barrett has just dropped the second song off her upcoming album “AFTERCARE,” titled “DIRTY LITTLE SECRET.”
Barrett is known for her soft pillowy vocals against relatable, hard-hitting lyrics and this song has the perfect combination of both. It is a complete thematic flip from the first released track, “PASSENGER PRINCESS,” but is just as delightful.
“PASSENGER PRINCESS” is all about love and loyalty, while “DIRTY LITTLE SECRET” is an honest narrative about only wanting a hookup and nothing more. Her enchanting vocals are backed by a sultry, synthetic pop melody, something that has become almost a signature for the 22-year-old artist.
“I don’t have to be the one / We don’t have to be in love / Let’s keep it discreet, sneaking out the back door / You’re so into me, what you doing that for? / I don’t wanna be the one,” she admits in the chorus. It’s obvious that this person wants to be more serious with her, but she wants to keep it very casual.
This is extremely apparent in verse 2, when Barrett sings, “I like your attention, yeah, I like it when I’m bored / But I know your intentions, yeah, you wish that I was yours / But that’s not what I call you for …” I think she is so real for this honestly, as in most music the woman usually wants more but the man is afraid of commitment or is just straight up using her. I love how she switches that narrative with this single.
“It doesn’t always have to be about love, sometimes you just want to own your femininity,” she said. “I hope this song empowers other women to feel confident, sexy, and hot!”
Barrett has grown into such an amazing artist and shows off more talent with each release. I cannot wait to hear the rest of the album when it comes out, and I know other fans agree.
