News Round-Up: What you missed week of Sept. 25

Former President Trump stock for Truth Social continues to decrease

According to Variety, Trump’s social media company that runs Truth Social has decreased by 10.3% on Monday, Sept. 23. This is the company’s lowest price since the very beginning of 2024 when they changed their symbol to Trump’s initials “DJT.” The filing noted that Trump is involved in numerous lawsuits and other matters that could damage his reputation and impact his stocks.

Trump announced at a press conference earlier this month to CBS News, “A lot of people think the reason [the company’s stock price is] down is a lot of people think I’m going to sell, and if I sell, it’s not going to be the same.”

Tropical Storm Helene

The category four hurricane Tropical Storm Helene hit Florida on Sept. 15. Specifically, the city of Perry, Florida has suffered from 140 mph winds. Tampa Bay has also been hurt from boats colliding into houses and beaches being underwater. The storm then made its way up South with Atlanta, along with North and South Carolina, also dealing with terrible flooding.

USA Today announced that by early Friday morning “more than 4.4 million homes and businesses remained without power.” As of Monday, Sept. 30, South Carolina has had 29 deaths, “Florida has recorded 12 deaths, Georgia 25, North Carolina 44, Tennessee four and Virginia two.”

Fluoride level in American water causes concern

A California federal court has raised concerns over the Environmental Protection Agency to work on the health risks from the fluoride levels in drinking water. The fact that fluoride is included in different dental products such as toothpaste, has caused critics to recognize that fluoride does not need to be in drinking water.

Judge Edward Chen in the ruling has stated “…it is associated with a reduction in the IQ of children and is hazardous at dosages that are far too close to fluoride levels in the drinking water of the United States.” However, the CDC has made comments against Chen’s claim by saying that “the most cost-effective method of delivering fluoride to all members of the community regardless of age, educational attainment, or income level.”

Hurricane John in Mexico

A category three hurricane, John, hit the southern pacific coast of Mexico late on Monday, Sept. 23. Other parts of Mexico, such as Mexico City and Guerrero, have suffered from horrific flooding and mudslides. The massive amounts of rain set off landslides that collapsed houses and blocked off roads in the mountain terrain area off the coast.

Acapulco is currently still having issues, with one resident stating “It was still raining, and the soil was sliding. People came out crying…” Unfortunately, over 20 people have passed away from the hurricane. In order to help out the Mexican army has been giving out aid packages to families in town that are impacted by the hurricane.

New York Mayor Eric Adams

The mansion of New York Mayor Eric Adams was under investigation by the FBI early in the morning on Sept. 24. Adams was indicted, the documents accuse “Adams of criminal conduct related to contributions to the Democrat’s 2021 mayoral campaign, and other conduct going back as far as 2015, when he was Brooklyn borough president.” The Turkish government is involved in the situation since the indictment also accuses Adams of “accepting well over $100,000 in foreign travel benefits and illegal campaign donations.” Others involved with Adams have also had their homes searched and phones seized.

Adams has since provided a statement, “If I am charged, I am innocent and I will fight this with every ounce of my strength and spirit.” Adams has since pleaded not guilty to all five counts that he faces while on trial. He was due back in court on Oct. 2.
