NBC News has found that although the U.S. spends more on health care, they earn the least from their investment. This health care is defined as “preventing deaths, access (mainly because of high cost) and guaranteeing quality treatment for everyone, regardless of gender, income or geographic location.” The former president of the Commonwealth Fund, Dr. David Blumentha, has told NBC News that hospitals are “undersupplied.”
NBC News has also provided a study conducted between the U.S. and other countries such as France and the United Kingdom. Although all of these countries have their own flaws in the findings, the U.S. was claimed by the researchers to be “exceptionally weak.” Based on the study, the U.S. seems to struggle with care access, efficiency, equity and outcomes.
The upcoming election is a big factor in considering the future of healthcare. Both presidential candidates have previously provided their insights on what they would want for our country.
Vice President and candidate Kamala Harris plans to focus on the Affordable Care Act, which is similar to Obamacare. According to The Conversation, Harris has “advocated for expanding its provisions, including supporting legislation that aimed to strengthen protections for people with preexisting conditions and increase funding for Medicaid expansion.”
Former President Donald Trump currently does not have a specific plan. During the presidential debate last month, he stated that he has “concepts of a plan.” This sounds a little scary since he could possibly be running our country again. But Trump has also stated, “We’re looking at different plans. If we can come up with a plan that is going to cost our people, our population less money and be better than Obamacare, then I would absolutely do it.” Americans need to keep in mind that this is not definite, and the Trump campaign should have figured this out a long time ago, especially with the election happening in one month.
This is why I think voting is very important. Every American citizen should worry about what their country could possibly look like in the future. We should not only think about ourselves and our families but other Americans as well. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford proper, good and safe health care for themselves.
We should focus on what we can do and how we can change this healthcare issue instead of putting the most attention on things such as terminating abortion rights.
