Last Tuesday, Ramapo’s Enactus Club hosted their bi-weekly project meeting for both Bark Beds and Bark Bones.
Enactus, a club that focuses on using entrepreneurial and business tactics to help the community, invited students to help paint tires, cut fabric and sew and ensemble dog beds along with toys.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Kroeber is the project leader for Bark Beds and Bark Bones and says that to her, the project “means doing something good in the environment.”
“Taking things that are used and old and making them new…is very cool,” Kroeber noted. “[It’s] a good way to go about things…repurposing them in a smart and meaningful way for animals.”
Enactus collects water bottles from events at Ramapo and uses them to make crinkly toys, while old donated tires are made into beds. President and junior marketing major Kyra Thomas revealed that throughout the last six years, Enactus has successfully converted approximately “300 pounds of tires” and “100 pounds of water bottles” into toys and beds.
“I’m a dog lover, so I was like, ‘You know what? Why not,’” freshman Bryana Rico said of attending the event. “They sent out that there was a meeting today and I didn’t have anything to do after class, so I just found it as a great opportunity.”
Beyond their mission to help animals in need, they work closely with local women’s shelters and businesses as well. For more information about their projects and meetings, contact Enactus@ramapo.edu.
