Men and women’s swim teams place second and are on the rise

On Saturday, Oct. 26, both the men’s and women’s swim teams placed second in a tri-meet against Marywood University and Hartwick College. The teams triumphed over Marywood while losing narrowly to Hartwick. 

The men’s team led a blowout against Marywood with a final score of 194-41 but also fell to Hartwick in a close score of 127-135. Ramapo won first place in nearly every event they competed in. Swimmers Adam Wright, Joseph Swede, Andy Shkolnik and Doruk Evcimen won first place in the 200-medley relay with a combined time of 1:41.81. Following along in the close race, Matthew O’Brien, Sean Robinson, Caleb Baron and Tyler Finkle earned third place in the same event with a combined time of 1:46.53. 

The women’s team also dominated over Marywood with a final score of 192-69 but faltered to Hartwick 160-102. In the women’s meet, Isabella Hanson, Grace Korey, Valeria Pages and Sovannary Taylor earned second place with a combined time of 1:57.79. Rachel Vasquez, Magda Swat, Madeline Joe and Julia Caramagna also finished with a combined time of 2:19.79 in that event. 

In the men’s 50-yard freestyle event, Swede brought home first place with a final time of 22.36. Finkle and Jacob Peraza also competed in the event and finished with final times of 23.70 and 28.10, respectively. In the women’s 50 free event, Taylor delivered with a first-place finish in a close race, beating out Jillian E Ferrie from Harwick by less than a second. Cameron Yovich, Mairin Huston and Caramagna also competed in the event with final scores of 27.24, 28.58 and 32.27, respectively. 

The Roadrunners dominated in the 1,000-yard free event, where both teams won first place in their category. In the men’s race, Wright placed first with a final time of 10:03.92, beating out the second-place winner by 20 seconds. Robinson earned third place with a final time of 10:47.08. Alazne Sudupe brought home first place for the women’s team with a final time of 11:34.01, also swimming twenty seconds faster than the second-place winner. Korey placed third in the event with a final time of 11:55.86. Zephora Amanuel also competed and finished with a final time of 13:04.25.  

The Roadrunners also beat out the competition in the 200-yard fly, earning first place in both competitions. Wright delivered another first-place win, ending with a time of 2:02.84. Andrew Guevara and Tomas Jimenez also competed, finishing with scores of 2:18.01 and 2:32.47, respectively. In the women’s event, Sudupe won another first-place trophy with a final time of 2:25.17. Her teammates Hanson and Swat also competed and finished with times of 2:42.60 and 3:03.75, respectively. 

In the 500-yard freestyle event, Ramapo also swept the competition with more first places from Wright and Sudupe. Wright finished in 4:52.67, and Robinson followed right behind in second place with a final time of ​​4:58.52. Sudupe finished first in her race with a final time of 5:40.45, as Amanuel followed later with a time of 6:24.58. 

In the 200-yard freestyle, Evcimen won first place for the men’s team with a time of 1:48.36. Robinson also earned third place with a final time of 1:52.05. In the women’s event, Pages placed third with a time of 2:09.43, which was quickly followed by Yovich with a final time of 2:10.87.  

Evcimen also won first place in the 100-yard free and the 100-yard fly, finishing with times of 48.47 seconds and 53.43 seconds, respectively. Swede also placed third in the 100-yard free, followed by Finkle who placed fourth. Pages placed second in the women’s event with a final time of 58.35. 

Hanson commanded the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard backstroke events, earning first and second place. She won first place in the 200-yard backstroke, crushing her opponent in a close race with a final score of 2:21.55. In the 100-yard backstroke, Hanson placed second with a final time of 1:04.58.

 The Roadrunners will return to compete this weekend on Saturday, Nov. 2 against The College of New Jersey on their own turf.
