Many spent their Monday mornings angrily calling in WFAN about the Jets’ 22-25 loss to the New England Patriots last Sunday, Oct. 27. Their fifth straight loss leaves many fans upset by the team’s failing performance this season despite their talented roster and the loss to the lower ranked team.
After discussions between the press and the players, it seems that the New York Jets cannot get on the same page. Sauce Gardner spoke to the press about the critical 34-yard drive led by New England quarterback Jacoby Brissett that led to the Patriots’ win. Gardner said, “First of all, I didn’t even know that the post was going to get vacated. But he vacated the post, and I was on the upfield shoulder. The quarterback underthrew it, and he caught the ball. It’s simple.”
The Jets also struggled throughout the game to get their plays into action. After suffering through several lags, the Jets used up all their timeouts before the end of the first quarter. Aaron Rodgers took no responsibility when speaking to reporters. He couldn’t give a clear answer for the reasons for any of the time outs, telling the press, “I’m not exactly sure. On one of them, we were lagging out of the huddle, one I was trying to get the protection right. One I felt like we could have gotten off, but it was fine to take it there. Yeah, our operation was a little slow at times.”
Many critics of the team also blame Jets kicker Greg Zuerlein, who missed an extra point and a field goal to put the Jets behind. In the fourth quarter, Zuerlein missed a 44-yard field goal attempt that would’ve extended the Jets lead to 16-14.
Despite Zeurlein’s consistently reliable performance during his past two seasons with the Jets, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich is having doubts about the team. Ulbrich told reporters, “We’ve got to take a hard look at everything that we do; everything. It’s not just on Greg; it’s on all of us. We’ll do that this week.”
There is still speculation as to who will be named the next Jets Head Coach, but no name has been offered by the front office. The Jets will play next on Thursday, Oct. 31 against the Houston Texans.
