Men’s basketball kicks off their season strong with a 89-73 triumph

The men’s basketball team kicked off their season at home with a 89-73 victory over Lancaster Bible College. The Roadrunners took control and established a strong lead in the first half, entering half time with a score of 46-28.

In the second half, Ramapo extended the lead to 21 points on a three-pointer from forward Anthony Corbo for a 54-33 score. The Chargers tried to close the gap, going on a 7-0 run and cutting the lead to 13 points. However, Ramapo’s offense quickly responded with back-to-back baskets from forward Shane Rooney, which brought the score to 65-48.

The Roadrunners scored 50 points in the paint and took advantage of Lancaster Bible’s mistakes, scoring 20 points off turnovers. Ramapo was efficient, shooting 51% from the field, 50% from three-point range and 76% from the free-throw line. All five starters reached double figures, inducing point guard Peter Gorman, leading with 23 points, nine assists, four rebounds and two steals. Center Jordan Myers added 14 points, six rebounds and one blocked shot. Guard Justin Bladen contributed 12 points, five assists and two rebounds while Rooney recorded 12 points and a team-high 16 rebounds. Corbo posted 11 points, six rebounds and two steals. Bench players forward Tim Linton and guard Elijah Barlow also made significant contributions, with Linton scoring eight points, adding three rebounds and two steals. Barlow added seven points, three rebounds and two steals.

The Chargers were led by Grant Sareyka with 17 points, three assists and two rebounds, while Camden Hurst added 12 points and four rebounds. Daniel King recorded six rebounds and contributed with two points and one assist. Lancaster Bible scored 30 points in the paint and shot 39% from the field, including 30% from three-point range and 60% from the free-throw line.

Myers reflected on the team’s performance in an email to The Ramapo News, saying, “The biggest takeaway I took from our game is how balanced we played as a team especially from our scoring production, all 5 starters scored in double figures and 2 guys off the bench came close, it highlights the amount of talent and depth we have and if [we] continue to play with a full team effort I think we can win a lot of games. We have a long way to go but a good first step in our first game.”

Ramapo will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 16, hosting Farmingdale State College at 3 p.m. at the Bradley Center.
