Ice hockey team on the rise to victory

The Roadrunners dominated this past weekend in games against Farmingdale State College and Neumann University, taking home wins from both games. The two games pushed their record to 8-9-0 overall.

Last Friday, Ramapo won in a huge upset against Farmingdale. Farmingdale currently places first in the Empire Collegiate Hockey Conference and holds a record of 11-4-2. The Rams also seeked to continue their three-game win streak while Ramapo sought after a much-needed win. Despite the Rams outshooting the Roadrunners 47-23, Ramapo took home a 2-1 win.

The first period started out tough for the Roadrunners, facing two penalties for tripping and roughing. However, the defense was able to stave off the Rams during power plays as well as superb goal-keeping from Alec Rittenhouse to keep the score tied at zero.

Daniel Phillips put the Roadrunners on the board with two minutes to go in the first period, with assists from Robert Wogisch and Adam Moskal. Phillips would go on to score the game-winning goal in the second period as well, followed by assists from Wogisch and Moskal. The Rams were falling behind going into the third period, with a score of 2-0 in favor of the Roadrunners.

Farmingdale didn’t make their first goal until late into the third period, when Luke Ferazi scored with assists from Brendan Dixson and Kevin Manzi. The Rams struggled to score again after a penalty was given for delaying the game two minutes after their hopeful goal. However, Ramapo fought back and fought hard.

With one minute left in the game, the Rams resorted to an empty net in hopes that they would tie up the game. Lucky for Ramapo, Rittenhouse and the defensemen kept battling until the very end and led Ramapo to a 2-1 victory.

The very next day, the Roadrunners ventured over to the Delaware Valley Collegiate Hockey Conference and beat Neumann University on their own ice in a 5-2 win. This heated game between the two rivals was filled with exciting goals and penalties from both teams.

Devin Haines scored the first goal of the game and put the Roadrunners up on the board late into the first period. After this goal, the game began to see a lot of action. Ramapo received three penalties and Neumann faced two as well after Haines scored unassisted.

With tensions on the rise, the second period was underway. Each team faced minor penalties within the first half of the period, but both teams were unable to score during a power play. With ten minutes to go, Luca Carnemolla scored with an assist from Phillips to make the score 2-0.

Neumann followed later on with a goal from Tyler Ruppert, assisted by Donald Rosenkrans and James Morrison.

With thirty seconds remaining in the second period, Brady Vella scored the game-winning goal with an assist from Anthony Fizer to make the score 3-1.

The third period saw all bark and no bite from Neumann University. Both penalties awarded in the half were given to the Knights for unsportsmanlike conduct and interference. However, they also scored first in the third period to make the score 3-2. Ramapo attacked again with a goal from Tommy Korpics, assisted by Phillips, to extend the lead further.

The clock kept counting down, but Neumann could not match the score. With two minutes left in the game, the Knights resorted to an empty net in efforts to tie it up. This backfired when Fizer scored unassisted to increase the score 5-2. The Knights put Domenic Veneziale back into goal, and the score remained the same until the clock ran out.

On Friday, Nov. 22, Ramapo will face off against Jefferson Community College on the road.
