Women dominate 2025 Grammy nominations

The nominations for the 2025 Grammys were announced on Friday, Nov. 8 with many milestones and surprises for popular artists this year.

For record of the year, Beyonce’s “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso,” “360” by Charli XCX, “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” by Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck, Babe!” and “Fortnight” by Taylor Swift featuring Post Malone are also going against each other along with a song from The Beatles. “Now and Then” was an unfinished song from The Beatles that was just released this year, completed with AI.

Personally, I think “Espresso” has a chance of winning, but it can also go to Lamar’s “Not Like Us.” However, both Carpenter and Lamar are also nominated for song of the year and I think one of them could win that too.

This year’s album of the year is a bit controversial, since some fans feel that stars such as Ariana Grande were snubbed. Grande’s seventh album, “eternal sunshine” was released earlier this year in March, yet it seems like The Grammys forgot that this happened since she only has three nominations this year: “the boy is mine” featuring Brandy and Monica for best pop duo/group performance and best pop vocal album, and “yes, and?” for best dance pop recording. I really hope she wins best pop vocal album, but I unfortunately am unsure if Grande has a chance of winning the other two categories.

I am rooting for Eilish’s “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT” to win album of the year, but I also want Charli XCX’s “BRAT” to win as well.

From Roan’s rise to success this year, she is nominated for six awards along with best new artist. I think she has a chance of winning this category, even though she is up against Carpenter. In my opinion, Carpenter is not a “new artist” as she released another popular album “emails i can’t send” back in 2022.

Pop sensation Taylor Swift also has six nominations this year, with one of them being her feature on rising star Gracie Abrams’ song titled “us.” I really do not think Swift has a chance of winning any of these awards associated with “The Tortured Poets Department” or her Gracie Abrams feature. Not only because her latest album was not her best work, but because of the other rising pop stars like Carpenter and Roan being nominated for the same or similar categories.

Beyoncé has received the most nominations this year for her new country album “COWBOY CARTER.” With these 11 nominations, this means that Beyoncé now has the most Grammy nominations ever, with a total of 99 nominations throughout her entire career.

As of right now, popular singer and songwriter Bruno Mars has never lost a Grammy nomination. Mars has been nominated for two Grammys this year for his feature on Lady Gaga’s new song “Die With A Smile.” It will be interesting to see if that streak continues this year.

The Grammys is not just about musical artists, but music used in films as well. Two categories for music in visual media might also cause some shock with its wins next year. The best compilation soundtrack for visual media win could possibly go to Marvel’s “Deadpool and Wolverine,” but Emerald Fennell’s “Saltburn” is also nominated. As for the other visual media category, best score soundtrack for visual media, I am hoping for Luca Guadanino’s “Challengers” to win.

The 2025 Grammys will air on Feb. 2, 2025 and will be broadcast on CBS and Paramount+.
