On Nov. 23, the men’s and women’s swim teams took home fourth place at the Cougar Splash Invitational hosted by Misericordia University. Freshman Adam Wright broke two school records, ending with a final time of 16:06.85 in the 1650 meter freestyle and 9:39.48 in the 1000 meter freestyle. The former record-holder of the 1000 meter freestyle is current head coach of the swim team Gary Orr, who set the record back in 1980.
The men’s team earned 245 points at the competition and medaled in nine events. Wright earned first place with both of his record breaking performances. Fellow freshman Doruk Evcimen also won first place in the 200 meter freestyle and the 200 meter butterfly with times of 1:45.52 and 1:57.29, respectively. The two swimmers, joined by freshmen Sean Robinson and Andy Shkolnik, also earned first place in the 800 meter freestyle relay with a final time of 7:06.30.
The women’s team earned 238 points and medaled in six events. Junior Alazne Sudupe won first place in the 400 meter individual medley and second place in the 1640 meter freestyle, finishing with times of 4:47.45 and 18:24.20, respectively. Fellow junior Cami Yovich also took home two second place medals during the event, placing in the 100 meter breaststroke with a final time of 1:10.18 and the 200 meter breaststroke with a final time of 2:31.51.
The Roadrunners are done for the rest of 2024, but will return to action on Jan. 18 for their next meet against the New Paltz Hawks in New Paltz, N.Y.
