The Roadrunners looked to win their 17th consecutive match overall and remain undefeated in NJAC matches when they played host to the Rowan University Profs on Tuesday night in the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners accomplished the task as they defeated Rowan in straight sets (26-24, 25-17, 25-15).

Junior outside hitter Lena Husslein said that the Roadrunners expected to give it everything they had during the match.

“We’re going to give it our all every single game, every play, and I think we executed the game very well,” said Husslein.

Third-year outside hitter Larysa Iwaskiw, who has been one of Ramapo’s most consistent cogs and Ramapo’s best player on the court, had another impressive outing added to her resume as she successfully converted 21 of her 31 kill attempts.

Other key players include senior defensive specialist Natalia Saavedra, who led the Roadrunners in the defensive aspect of the match with eight digs.

Fellow senior, outside hitter Rachel Selmore, led the Roadrunners in assists with 18, and she added three kills. Husslein had three kills and two blocks, while senior middle blocker Emily Guzman also collected three kills, and added three blocks. Second-year libero Kristen Behrens collected seven digs while rookie outside hitter/defensive specialist Karina Almeda had six digs and an assist.

With Tuesday night’s victory over the Profs, the Roadrunners currently stand at an outstanding 21-3 overall record, which includes an unbelievable 7-0, first place record against NJAC opponents.

Selmore felt that the 26-24 win the first set was a very important confidence booster since the Roadrunners had the advantage in the second set as a result.

“We would have the momentum going into the second set, and Rowan would not have the momentum because they were so close, but then so far after losing the match point,” said Selmore.

Guzman said that the Roadrunners had the mentality that their opponents must not be underestimated.

“Coming into this game, we had the mentality that each team has to be taken seriously, and this is just preparation for NJACs. So once we get into playoffs, hopefully the way we play will translate into that. Our ultimate goal is to win NJACs overall,” said Guzman.

The Roadrunners travel to Rutgers-Camden on Oct. 25th for their next game when they take on the Scarlet Raptors at 7:00 p.m.
