It has been nearly a week since Apple CEO Tim Cook came out to defend the new iPhone prices and the craze to obtain the newest device despite its hefty price tag.
The company initially released three new iPhones, the iPhone XR, XS and XS Max, with the XR being the cheapest, coming in at $749, the XS following at $999 and the XS Max as the most expensive at $1,099. If you get the 512GB XS Max, the best phone with the most storage, the price increases to $1,449.
The XR was delayed another month because of various LCD display and software issues, so fans will have to wait until at least October before they can get their hands on one.
This is the largest and most expensive iPhone Apple has released to date, and while many have complained that the phone is too expensive, Tim Cook joined Robin Roberts on “Good Morning America” to defend his latest product.
"We want to make an iPhone for everyone," Cook said. “Most people pay about $30 a month for an iPhone or $1 a day. We found that people want to have the most innovative product available and it's not cheap to do that.”
During the products’ anticipated released on Sept. 21, consumers flooded stores and online shopping sites to get their hands on the phones, which comes with pretty much everything new and improved.
The XS Max features the biggest display ever, with a 6.5-inch screen, whereas the iPhone XS only has a 5.8-inch screen. Cook also pointed out that they replaced the traditional camera, music player and video camera with updated versions.
When it comes down to it, both the XS and XS Max are very similar devices. They both have live wallpapers, stainless steel gold finishes, improved glass durability, a better wide-angle camera, stereo recording for video, extended dynamic range for video and advanced Face ID.
All three new iPhones will have better battery life than the models released last year, and the size of the XS Max is just slightly smaller than a Kindle, so if you have small hands or had trouble with previous plus-sized models, this model is a tough adjustment.
As college students, it’s a tough pill to swallow to have to fork over at least $749 to get the best technological device out there, but unfortunately when you want the best products on the market, you’re going to have to pay a premium price for it.
Do I believe Apple should lower their prices for students, especially since many of us use the Macbooks and the iPhones? I do, but it’s never going to happen, and that's a harsh reality that we all have to face.
Apple became the first United States company to be valued at $1 trillion back in August, and with the prices of their newest devices coming out, their value will definitely continue to skyrocket.
