The Ramapo College women’s lacrosse team fell at the hands of St. Thomas Aquinas College, 14-13. The high-scoring match took place on Tuesday April 10, right on campus at the Athletic Center. The non-conference loss brings RCNJ to an overall record of 6-4.

STAC scored the first goal of the game in less than a minute at 0:48. Shortly afterwards, Roadrunner captain Molly Warner picked up a ground ball and headed toward the net. After one clear attempt, sophomore Shannon Eagan stole a goal at 2:58 to tie the game, 1-1. Eagon then assisted Warner who scored at 5:43 to snatch the lead. Ramapo kept the momentum going by scoring a third goal that was assisted by captain Beth McGraw at 9:06.

In retaliation, the Spartans slowly creeped up on the Roadrunners, scoring back to back goals and tying the game at 16:14.

A minute and a half later, junior Nicole Jaskot took advantage of a free position shot at 17:48, putting her team back in the lead, 4-3.

For the remainder of the period, Ramapo recorded two more goals, each dished out by Eagan, with an assist by senior Gabi Davidson on the second. In between Eagan’s mini streak, STAC stole an additional goal.  At the half, the score stood 6-4 in Ramapo’s favor.

The second period proceeded similarly: fast-paced and high-scoring. The Spartans returned to the turf hot, and managed to tie the game again at 5:53.

At 7:25, captain Ava Rinaldi tallied a free position goal, snagging the lead again 7-6.

Shortly after, STAC had a mini run and gained four goals in under four minutes. The score was 10-7 at 10:19.

Davidson and Eagan each scored a goal, so that the Roadrunners only trailed by one with a little more than half the period left to play.

At 14:05, McGraw posted a tying goal, 10-10 after an assist by junior Nicole Jaskot. Less than a minute later, McGraw scored another goal off an assist by Rinaldi once again stealing the lead, 10-11.

Sophomore Kayla Marino recorded her first goal of the season at 20:45, and then Davidson posted a goal of her own at 23:35. At this point, the score was 13-12, with Ramapo in the lead.

Unfortunately, RCNJ did not score again, while STAC scored twice. The Roadrunners were defeated 14-12, but they certainly put up a good fight.

For the game, Ramapo outshot STAC 41-30.

Goalkeeper Alexandra Kerwin guarded the net for the full 60 minutes, recording a total of ten saves.

Eagan proved to be team leader: she contributed four goals and one assist to the Roadrunners. Other scorers included McGraw, who posted three goals, and Davidson with two goals and two assists.

Warner, Marino, Jaskot and Rinaldi each tallied one goal apiece over the course of the game.

The women’s lacrosse team will return to action on Saturday, April 13 for a big game against Rowan University. The NJAC rival matchup will start at 1 p.m. at the Athletic Center Turf Field.
