The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is an annual tradition that has been going on since 1924 and this year the floats and performances did not disappoint. Held every Thanksgiving Day, viewers can view this attraction either in person on the streets of New York City or on television. With how joyful this parade is, it is hard to not enjoy it every year.

The program airs on NBC and takes place from 9 a.m. to noon every Thanksgiving morning. The three-hour-long program showcases extremely detailed hot air balloons typically depicting popular cartoon characters.

The program also allows a handful of Broadway shows to give audiences a special taste of what their shows have to offer. Famous performers often grace the parade by performing popular music throughout the festivities. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade allows high school marching bands from around the country to show off their immense talent for the millions of viewers.

This year the balloons seen in the parade depicted beloved characters such as Snoopy, Spongebob Squarepants with Gary the Snail, Smokey the Bear, Olaf from “Frozen”, the Green Giant, a balloon version of Mount Rushmore, The Grinch and many more. This year we saw performances by artists such as Celine Dion, Billy Porter, Jimmy Fallon and The Roots, Idina Menzel and the Black Eyed Peas.

NHL legends Dominic Moore and Eddie Olczyk, Miss America 2019 Nia Franklin, former NASA Astronauts Kay Hire and Janet Kavandi, the cast of Sesame Street also made appearances this year.

My personal favorite part of the parade was the performances from the casts of the Broadway musicals like “Ain't Too Proud,” “Beetlejuice,” “Hadestown” and “Tina.”

The performances on this program cater to a vast array of people and make it that much more enjoyable for the family.

Traditions like the Thanksgiving Day Parade are great because they allow families to come together and enjoy a family-friendly show. This is something millions of families view every Thanksgiving morning and this just goes how popular and well-loved this annual parade is.

I think that the parade is a wonderful and joyous tradition for the family.
