You smell good: Glossier drops two new fragrances

New York-based cosmetic brand Glossier is known for many of their trendy, Gen-Z targeted make-up products. One of Glossier’s most notable products is their fragrance You, marketed as the “ultimate personal fragrance.”

You is an earthy and floral skin-enhancing concoction, featuring iris, a spicy pink pepper and an alluring base note of ambrox, all of which change slightly based on the wearer. When You was released and many realized that the fragrance varies from person to person, the little pink bottle went viral.

For quite some time, this was the only fragrance that Glossier offered, but on Oct. 3, the brand dropped two new fragrances with little warning to consumers creating the Impressions of You fragrance line.

The fragrances are You Rêve and You Doux, and the pair share the same base note as the original with ambrox tying the fragrance line together. However, these fragrances aren’t as simple as You is with a striking three note make-up.

You Rêve is bottled in the purple variant of the You bottle with a top note of buttercream and heart notes of plum butter, toasted almond, iris and sandalwood, according to the product description. Making a sweet and fruity gourmand fragrance at first that gets warmer on the dry down as the buttery almond notes come through.

You Doux is bottled in the white variant of the You bottle and features a top note of sweet violet and heart notes of palo santo, frankincense and myrrh. This fragrance is a bright woody addition to the You line that stays rather consistent throughout its wear.

Both of these fragrances are great additions diversifying the You line. The appeal of Glossier’s fragrances is that you are the final ingredient. Every fragrance smells slightly different on every person, making layering even more exciting.

Out of the two fragrances, You Rêve changes the most as it dries. My only qualm is that the fragrances are both very faint upon first spray and really take time to develop on both skin and a paper blotter. You is a little more distinct upon first spray, no matter how the notes develop on your skin, you are immediately able to smell the notes. The two fragrances also have a decently long wear time of approximately six hours.

I personally love gourmand and woody fragrances, and both You Rêve and You Doux would be great additions to any fragrance collection as skin enhancers.
