Ramapo celebrates its 55th anniversary

Ramapo celebrated Founders’ Day on Oct. 21 in the Grove under its well-known red arch. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and retirees were invited to show their Ramapo pride by wearing maroon and joining the birthday celebration. The celebration was put together by Ramapo’s Student Government Association (SGA).

Ramapo turns 55 this year and to honor this celebration the first 55 students received a free commemorative Founders’ Day t-shirt. The first 55 faculty, staff or retirees wearing maroon or Ramapo attire also received a commemorative shirt.

The Grove was full of music and members of the Ramapo community congregating with friends and acquaintances to commemorate the day. There was also a 360 photo booth open to attendees. There were churros and funnel cake being served as well as refreshments and a cake cutting at 2 p.m.

President Cindy Jebb invited members of SGA to help cut the cake to show appreciation for planning the event.

Amongst the students enjoying the celebratory atmosphere was freshman psychology major Kelcey Desiderio. “It’s important to celebrate how far we’ve come,” said Desiderio. “[We] have really advanced in opportunities, not only for staff, but for students as well.”
