Field hockey fights hard against TCNJ and SUNY New Paltz

On Saturday, Ramapo’s field hockey team was defeated by The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), 3-0.

In the first quarter, TCNJ sophomore Isabel Maher scored the first goal for the Lions at 6:55, followed less than two minutes later by junior Mackenzie Hart at 8:12. Both were assisted by senior Rayhanah Ahmed. Ahmed went on to score the third and final goal for TCNJ at 20:58 during a penalty stroke in the third quarter. This goal brought her up to 11 total for the season, the current lead for the team.

The Roadrunners fought hard, with senior goalkeeper Michelle Kukan recording a career-high of 22 saves, one of which involved blocking a second penalty stroke. Junior midfielder Victoria Chavez and senior defender Juliana Mikulski both acquired defensive saves.

The Lions improve 11-5 and stand 5-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), while the Roadrunners move to 3-13 overall and stand 0-5 in NJAC.

On Oct. 29, the team took to New York to compete against SUNY New Paltz, ultimately resulting in a 5-1 loss. Just four minutes into the first quarter, midfielder Allison Tanasy scored, putting the Roadrunners on the board.

The Hawks answered back in the seventh minute with a goal from junior Miranda Britton, assisted by fellow forward Rachel Tama. The game was tied until the second quarter when Tama scored with an assist from Britton.

Right before halftime, Britton and midfielder Hannah Ackerman scored consecutive goals, bringing the score to 4-1. Freshman Ashley McGough hit double digits as she scored her tenth goal of the season with an assist from Ackerman.

Mikulski, midfielder Savannah Davis and defender Madison Kulik each recorded defensive saves for Ramapo. Kukan saved nine shots, while New Paltz sophomore Madison Orsini saved three. Junior Gail Comiskey saved one as the game was coming to an end.

This Saturday, the team will finish out their season against William Paterson University at 12 p.m.
