Lady Gaga brings back nostalgic electric pop sound with ‘Abracadabra’

Hardcore, electronic pop music is making its way back in 2025 and everyone is here for it. Lady Gaga is digging deep back into her roots of making unforgettable pop anthems with the release of her newest single, “Abracadabra.” Ever since her single and music video was dropped on Feb. 3 as a surprise during the 67th Grammy Awards, the song has been trending everywhere on social media.

With the upcoming release of her seventh studio album titled “Mayhem,” coming March 7, “Abracadabra” is standing strong as the second single.

Many fans are buzzing with speculation as the pop singer’s release is taking inspiration from her past hit songs such as “Bad Romance” and “Telephone.” To say the least, everyone is over the moon with nostalgia from Gaga’s smart business move to pay homage to her first love with pop music. Fans are on the edge of their seats with anticipation to see if the singer’s next album is going to be filled with classic anthems to listen to on repeat.

The lyrics of “Abracadabra” focus on the “devil” that lives inside all of us and how it tends to have us constantly question ourselves. One of the lyrics, “Like a poem said by a lady in red / You hear the last few words of your life,” refers to the almighty power of our own self-hatred.

As humans, our biggest competition is with ourselves. Gaga sings about how “Abracadabra” is the spell that this “lady in red” hexed upon her, but how she uses her light as a way to defeat this “monster.” It is quite a poetic way to express how being unapologetically yourself and to thrive in your own passions is the best revenge in any battle, whether it be with yourself or not.

In the music video released alongside the instant classic, Lady Gaga dresses as the “lady in red” but also dances in front of a dark, alter ego representing her angelic side dressed in all white. The whole idea is that this is a dance battle between the light and dark side, which Gaga proclaims at the start of the music video, saying, “The category is, dance or die.”

It is quite exciting to see electronic dance music reintroducing itself into the music industry. Many critics have mentioned how Charli xcx’s electronic pop album “brat” seems to have set an example for re-releasing music that is not so overly serious. While others are saying Lady Gaga was the artist that was ahead of her time with pop music — specifically her album “Artpop” which was released over ten years ago in 2013.

I wholeheartedly agree that Lady Gaga is the first artist that comes to mind when eccentric pop music is mentioned in any form. Dancing is a source of medicine that is arguably needed, as everyone has their own struggles. Lady Gaga has proved once again that she holds the title for being the source of this “never-ending dance” inside us all. Magicians everywhere may now have a run for their money since Lady Gaga now owns the spell “Abracadabra.”
