Men’s volleyball defeats Drew University 3-0

This past Saturday, Feb. 8, the men’s volleyball team hit the road to face off against Drew University and Hunter College in a tri-match hosted by Drew. Their match against Drew ended in a 3-0 victory, scoring 25-18, 25-22, 25-16 throughout the match. The Roadrunners lost their second match, getting shut out 3-0 by Hunter College. 

Ramapo dominated in their match against Drew, hitting .360 with 43 kills on 89 attempts. Freshman Brady Cascone led the team in kills, contributing 12 of the 43 in total and 82 kills for the entire season. Reece Kirchofer also delivered, recording 10 kills and 5 digs for the Roadrunners. Kirchofer continues to lead his team in overall kills for the season with 83 earned thus far. 

Sophomore Josh Barrett was also a top contributor during the match, recording eight kills and one assist. Senior JoJo Meyer strengthened the team’s offense, getting 37 assists, six digs and two blocks in their game against the Rangers. Likewise, sophomore Sean McNally recorded eight digs and two assists to further drive home a victory for the Roadrunners. 

Drew’s team has struggled throughout the season and currently holds a 13 game losing streak. Despite the strife so far this season, Michael Shipman led the Rangers with eight kills, followed by Matthew Adegbite with seven more. Although Drew resisted Ramapo’s offensive efforts, they could not follow through. Ramapo managed 43 kills over Drew’s 26, and hit overall .360 compared to Drew’s .178. Overall, Drew tallied 13 errors against Ramapo’s 11. 

In Ramapo’s game against Hunter, the boys fought hard in three close sets but could not muster a victory. The final scores remained 23-25, 22-25, 21-25 for each set, respectively, but the Roadrunners still gave it their all. 

Kirchofer continued the offensive attack, leading the team in kills with nine while recording four digs and one block along the way. Cascone also kept on dominating, tallying eight kills and three digs. 

Meyer also repeated his consistent efforts in the second match against Hunter, tallying 25 assists and four digs for the team. Barrett and McNally carried over their strong efforts from the Drew match, leading their team in digs with 6 each.

The Hawks were led by junior Ahmed Mohamed, who hit .345 in the match and tallied 14 kills for Hunter, four digs, one block and one assist. Lucas George also contributed greatly with seven assisted blocks, five kills and two aces.  

These two teams were neck-and-neck during all three sets. Despite the fact that Hunter made more errors than Ramapo, 17 to 14 respectively, Hunter also dominated on offense. The Hawks hit at .258 compared to Ramapo’s .169, as well as recording more kills, assists and blocks in total. 

Ramapo will return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 22 for a Skyline Tri-Match with Manhattanville University and New Jersey City University in the Bradley Center.
