Trump’s new Gaza plan
“Riviera of the Middle East” is the new name of Gaza, according to President Donald Trump, who revealed earlier this week that he wants to turn it into a wealthy area.
This plan involves moving Gaza’s Palestinian residents to nearby countries such as Egypt and Jordan.
However, a couple of professors have come forward and admitted that there is no way that Trump’s plan would be successful.
“It is foolish, counterproductive, and illegal,” stated Ian Hurd, Professor of Political Science at Northwestern University. “Taking territory by force and expelling the residents are war crimes—aggression is a crime, ethnic cleansing is a crime, and attacks on civilians are crimes.”
Ending Birthright Citizenship Plan Blocked Indefinitely
Trump’s previous plans of ending birthright citizenship has been blocked indefinitely by a judge in Maryland.
Back on Trump’s first day back in office, he issued an executive order ending birthright citizenship against babies of undocumented immigrants and for people with temporary status in the U.S.
“The denial of the precious right to citizenship will cause irreparable harm,” said by Judge Deborah Boardman, “If the court does not enjoin enforcement of the executive order, children subject to the order will be denied the rights and benefits of U.S. citizenship and their parents will face instability.”
Sweden School Shooting
A school for adults in Sweden suffered from a shooting on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Located in Örebro, 11 people were killed by the shooter, and five others were hospitalized.
One of the students who was in a classroom at the time of the shooting told the police that he heard “three bangs and loud screams,” and that “there was blood all over the corridor.”
“The charges are currently attempted murder, arson and aggravated weapons offense,” the police stated on Tuesday afternoon. The police also believe that the shooter could be dead.
“This is the worst mass shooting in Swedish history. Many questions remain unanswered, and I cannot provide those answers either,” said Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.
Greece Earthquake
Greece’s volcanic island Santorini has suffered from a few short earthquakes on Tuesday night.
The area where Greece is located makes it rare for earthquakes to occur every few minutes like it did earlier this week. Authorities have taken serious matters such as closing schools for the rest of the week and canceling public events.
The earthquakes were measuring between magnitude 3 and magnitude 5.
Alaska Flight
Authorities in Nome, Alaska conducted a search for a missing aircraft that was carrying 10 people on Friday, Feb. 7.
Bering Air Flight 445 was flying from Unalakleet Airport to Nome Airport on Thursday afternoon when it suddenly disappeared. It was found the next day about 34 miles southeast of Nome, according to CNN. The small plane suffered from an unknown circumstance which led to a rapid loss in elevation and speed. All 10 passengers have been announced dead.
Gulf of America Finalized
Just hours before the Super Bowl, Trump announced that the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico is now official.
The White House website has now declared Feb. 9 as “Gulf of America Day” followed by an official announcement.
“NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim February 9, 2025, as Gulf of America Day,” the website states, “I call upon public officials and all the people of the United States to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.”
