One thing Roadrunners can always count on is the team in the Commuter Affairs Office. To relieve the stress of Valentine’s Day, Commuter Affairs threw a Self-Love Day in J. Lees to mend any potential sorrows before Feb. 14.
The event ran from 1-3 p.m. for any Ramapo student who wanted to stop by. This event appealed to all commuters for its convenient time and the plethora of goodies it had to offer.
The organization’s main goal is to provide for Ramapo’s commuter population, especially those who may miss out on most Ramapo events.
“Events like this are important for the commuter population because they often go overlooked,” said Commuter Affairs Student Manager Sharleen Lee. “Other events’ times’ tend not to work for the commuter population. We work hard to have them in the afternoon and it’s good that people come.”
Walking into J. Lees, a feeling of comfort filled the lounge. Music played from a speaker located near the windows while a neon, red J. Lee’s sign beamed from behind the front desk. Commuters laughed with their friends and relaxed with ease — cherishing a place they can call their own.
The Commuter Affairs team laid out coloring sheets to be used and fidget toys for the taking. A couple of students played pool while many others flocked to the TV for a session of Super SmashBros. It seemed as though everyone had something perfectly tuned to their interests.
Commuter Affairs also set up a craft station for students to make Valentine’s Day cards before the big day. They offered pink construction paper, colored markers and condoms — which seems to be offered at any event targeted towards college students.
Last, but definitely not least, the free food. Rumor has it that any time free food appears, it always has at least one college student within a ten-foot radius. The Commuter Affairs team served penne vodka and wings, with an assortment of sodas to wash it down. By 1:30 p.m., there was no food left to serve.
Overall, the event was a success. Commuter Affairs provided everything they possibly could for a relaxed event meant for Ramapo’s commuter population. Any and all future events can be found on the Commuter Affairs Instagram page, @rcnjcommuters.
