Tiger Woods pulls out of Genesis Invitational
Ahead of the 2025 Genesis Invitational tournament, Tiger Woods announced on social media that he would not be playing following the death of his mother just days prior.
“I planned to tee up this week, but I’m just not ready,” Woods said in an Instagram post. “I did my best to prepare knowing it’s what my Mom would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss.”
The champion golfer has announced his intentions to return to the game on Tuesday, Feb. 18 for the highly anticipated Tomorrow’s Golf League (TGL) match in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. TGL, which Woods is a founding member of, is a new high-tech and interactive series of matches composed of teams stacked with some of the world’s best golfers.
Anthony Davis Injury
In his debut game with the Dallas Mavericks, Anthony Davis showed off an impressive first half of the game before leaving in the third quarter due to injury. Many anticipate that the injury to his left adductor will leave him out of the game for the next several weeks.
Having recently been traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Mavericks in return for Luka Dončić, the star defenseman’s injury is a devastating blow for the Mavericks and their fans, with several other key players out on injury as well.
“After being traded for Luka Doncic in what is regarded as one of the worst trades in sports history, Anthony Davis has left the first game as a Maverick with a non contact injury. Great Job Nico for trading an injury prone 32 year old in exchange for one arguably one of the most impactful players since Kobe,” X user @oilmutt complained.
It is not year clear how long Davis will be out with his injury or if he will require serious medical attention, but many fans feel this is not a good sign for the Mavericks.
Team USA and Team Canada 4 Nations fights
This year marks the first-ever 4 Nations Face-Off, an international hockey tournament with players from the USA, Canada, Sweden and Finland. The USA Canada matchup in the 4 Nations Face Off was off to a fiery start, with three fights breaking out in the first nine seconds of the game.
Brothers Matthew and Brady Tkachuk, as well as J.T. Miller, each fought at the very beginning of play. The game itself ultimately ended in a Team USA win, securing them a spot in the 4 Nations championship final game on Thursday, Feb. 20.
Jets let go of Aaron Rodgers
This past Thursday, The New York Jets announced that they intend to proceed without current quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Rodgers had a rough start with the Jets back in 2023, when he tore his Achilles tendon within the first 90 seconds of his playing time with the Jets. Despite his moderate success during the 2024 season, negotiations among the Jets organization ultimately ended with saying goodbye to Rodgers. The end of his two year stint with the Jets will come in June at the time of his expected release.
NBA All-Star Weekend
The NBA hosted its 74th annual All-Star weekend from Feb. 14-16 in San Francisco. The weekend was packed full of fast-paced games, with the biggest names in basketball competing against each other.
The weekend began on Friday, Feb. 14, with the Celebrity Game and Rising Stars Challenge — both catching the attention of major media outlets. Saturday night hosted some of the biggest highlights of the weekend, including the Dunk Contest, 3-Point Contest and Skills Challenge. The weekend culminated in the highly anticipated NBA All-Star game on Sunday Night.
Mac McClung became the first player to ever three-peat in the Dunk Contest, with a perfect score on all four of his dunk attempts. Damian Lillard, however, was unable to three-peat in the 3-Point contest, and was ultimately defeated by Tyler Herro. The Skills Challenge was won by Team Cavs following a disqualification of Team Spurs.
The All-Star game features a new format this year than in years past, where 24 All-Star players were split into three teams of eight players each, drafted by Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith. The three teams, plus the winner of the Rising Stars Game, compete in three mini-games — the winner is the first team to reach 40 points.
Team Chuck’s Global Stars played against Team Shaq’s OG in the final, with Shaq’s OGs taking home the win.
