Ramapo College students ventured to Bright Side Manor, a residential senior-living facility in Teaneck on Friday, Feb. 21. The students were participating in a service trip run by CCEC, joining Allie Shapiro, the Coordinator for Community Engagement, to complete “Chores and Cheers” at the nonprofit assisted living facility.
The group of four students received a tour of the facility, currently housing over 60 seniors, and helped organize storage closets, hang up artwork and spend time playing card games with current residents.
While volunteering, the students had the opportunity to meet Development Director and Ramapo College alum Brian T. Wilson from the class of 2003, who also serves on the board of the Ramapo College Alumni Association.
“It was a very eye opening experience,” expressed sophomore neuroscience student Franco Miyashiro, “We had the opportunity to meet a resident who was about to celebrate her twenty-ninth year living in the facility. It just shows you the long and fulfilling lives that seniors can enjoy with the proper resources.”
The CCEC will return to Bright Side Manor Friday, Feb. 28 for another round of “Chores and Cheers.”
