Disney star turned pop singer Dove Cameron is making a return to the music industry with her latest single, “Too Much,” released on Feb. 21.
Cameron made her music debut in 2023 with “Alchemical: Volume 1,” which included the viral hit “Boyfriend.” Now, after a two-year hiatus to prioritize her mental health, she’s back — and this track proves just how much she’s grown.
“I had a realization one day that it’s not my job to make myself smaller to fit into a shape that you’re more comfortable holding,” she told Billboard. This attitude drives “Too Much,” a high-energy techno-pop anthem packed with confidence.
Cameron delivers her message clearly in the chorus, singing, “If you say I’m too much, baby, go find less / If you can’t keep up, stay below, I guess / If I’m such a big deal, maybe you’re too little / Ooh, ooh, it’s tough, I’m too, too, too much for you, babe.”
It’s definitely an interesting new piece from her, given the lower-register vocals and the fast-paced spoken-word delivery in the second verse. It feels like early Lady Gaga with a sprinkle of Charli xcx’s futuristic beats. However, I think it suits her and her new journey.
If “Too Much” is just the beginning, I can’t wait to hear what else she puts out in the coming year.
