Ramapo defeats Fordham University in Empire Collegiate Hockey playoffs

With enough goals, penalties and fights to last through next season — playoff hockey strikes again. The Roadrunners spared no expense this year in the Empire Collegiate Hockey playoffs, taking home a 6-3 win against Fordham University in the first round.

Fordham’s Rams started off strong with a goal from Mark Saradjian scored not even two minutes into the first period. The efforts of the Roadrunners were not thwarted, as Matthew Cochran scored the tying goal less than a minute later, unassisted.

Later in the first period, Ramapo’s Robert Wogisch passed straight to Devin Haines after a face-off, allowing Haines to shoot straight into the back of Fordham’s net for the go-ahead goal. The first period ended in a tie after Piotr Kszczot retaliated with an unassisted goal against the Roadrunners.

The excitement of the first period did not halt when players began the second. Ramapo scored first, with a powerful slap shot from Daniel Kulbanskiy just past the blue line, assisted by Tyler Kulbanskiy. Fordham evened out the score later into the period. However, the game winning goal came with eight minutes left in the second, when Kulbanskiy, assisted by Duncan Geoghegan, scored to put the Roadrunners ahead.

The Roadrunners didn’t stop there. Luca Carnemolla dominated in the third period with two insurance goals to guarantee a win for Ramapo.

Although the players fought hard, the Roadrunners ended their playoff run the next day with a loss against Farmingdale State College. For now, the team pulls their focus to the 2025-26 season that lays ahead of them.
