Ramapo senior Gbarper Dwah qualified for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships after running a season best of 7.64 seconds in the 60 meter dash at the All-Atlantic Regional Championships.
Dwah placed no. 18 in the NCAA Indoor Qualifying List, in which the top 20 are eligible to compete in the championships. This is Dwah’s second time competing in the NCAA indoor championships in the 60m dash event.
Dwah all-around has had a very big season this year in indoor track. Not long ago, Dwah was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Champion in the 60m dash event. Her all-time best of 7.61, which she set in 2023, is the all-time record at Ramapo in her respective event.
She was also named to the NJAC First Team All Conference this season, along with her teammate Dale Leonard for her performances in the mile and 3k races.
The list of Dwah’s season accomplishments are far from over, as she is no stranger to first place wins. Dwah has earned some pretty serious hardware this year, winning first place in three meets this season.
Most recently, Dwah took home first place against multiple NCAA D1 competitors at the Metropolitan Indoor Championships held in Staten Island, N.Y. There, she ran the 60m race in 7.70 seconds. Dwah also won 11th place in the 200m dash in the very same meet, crossing the finish line in 26.06 seconds.
Additionally, Dwah won the 60m dash event when the track and field teams traveled to the University of Pennsylvania for the Widener Winter Invite. At this meet in particular, Dwah’s time of 7.75 seconds in the 60m dash placed her in the number one spot of the Metro Region and tied for second in all of D3 this season.
She ended 2024 with a win in the TCNJ Winter Open held at the N.Y. Armory and hosted by The College of New Jersey. She sprinted to the finish line in 7.67 seconds, gaining a first place trophy in the event.
This upcoming Friday Dwah will travel all the way to Rochester, N.Y. to compete in the NCAA DIII preliminaries hosted by Nazareth University in their Golisano Training Center. The meet starts at 2:15 p.m. and can be streamed on ncaa.com for free. If she advances to the championships, the races will be held the next day at 3:35 p.m. in the same complex.
