Lacrosse wins against Mount Saint Mary College

The women’s lacrosse team took home a close win against Mount Saint Mary College (MSMC) in their game over spring break. With a final score of 15-11, the girls relentlessly fought to win their fourth game this season. The game went back and forth, with both teams going on repeated hot streaks and scoring multiple goals in a row.

The game started in favor of Mount Saint Mary, with the Knights taking a 2-1 lead over the Roadrunners. Early into the second quarter, Erin Smeilus tied the game 2-2 with an unassisted goal. Soon after, the Knights scored three consecutive goals to put them up 5-2 against the Roadrunners. Responding to the challenge, Bethany Glaser and Lauren Travaglini each scored goals against MSMC, until MSMC retaliated again to make the score 6-4. The second period ended after two consecutive goals, both from Smeilus, to tie up the score before the clock ran out.

During the third quarter, Ramapo absolutely dominated offensively, scoring five goals one after another to make the score 11-6. MSMC didn’t respond until late in the quarter, with a goal from Delisianna Naccarato. With under 30 seconds left in the quarter, Travaglini responded to Naccarato’s goal with an assist from Kassidy Baez to make the score 12-7.

Not only did Travaglini and Baez close out the third quarter with a goal, but they started the fourth quarter with another goal, as well. MSMC then went on a three-goal streak, threatening to tighten the score and tie up the game. Esme Espinosa came in clutch with an unassisted, streak-ending goal to throw the Knights off their game. With two more goals from the Knight’s Karlie Ferrucci and the Roadrunner’s Glaser, the game ended with a 15-11 score in favor of Ramapo.

Despite MSMC outshooting Ramapo 26-24, Ramapo was able to cause more turnovers and have more draw controls in order to take the victory. Glaser scored five goals for Ramapo alongside Smeilus’ four, with Glaser adding one assist and five draw controls.

Goalkeeper Alyssa Curto tallied two saves during her 20:27 in goal, now holding the third all-time record in program history for career saves. Daniella Indomenico tallied five saves in the first 39:33 of the game.

The women’s lacrosse team will play this Saturday against Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham at 10 a.m. in non-conference action.
