Ramapo dance team brought the energy to DTU College Classics

If there is a group of girls on campus to count on, it’s the Ramapo College Dance Team. This past weekend, they flew to Orlando, Fla. to compete at the Dance Team Union (DTU) College Classics, and naturally brought some hardware back to New Jersey.

Despite this being their first national competition with DTU, the historically winning team at Ramapo came home with two top-five wins in Hip Hop and Pom. With one team, one goal and one mindset, they made all the work this season worthwhile.

The girls competed in the preliminaries on April 12 in both categories. The Hip Hop group won first place with a score of 88.66, beating Pacific University by just over two points. Their Pom routine placed fifth that Saturday with a score of 84.04.

The following day, the team competed in the final events. The Hip Hop group finished in second place with a score of 90.02, falling behind Trine University by less than a quarter of a point. The Pom group’s previous placement remained unchanged, but their score rose to 85.94.

The girls danced their hearts out, and the work definitely paid off. Posted on their Instagram page, a phrase reads “1 team, 1 goal, 1 mindset” and that philosophy shined through. Not only do the dancers have immense talent, but a chemistry that cannot be replicated in just another team.

Their stylish costumes for the national stage did not disappoint. In the Hip Hop routine, the girls wore black jeans and black denim crop tops underneath a bedazzled Ramapo baseball jersey. They represented the school colors with maroon accents, both in the makeup and the outfit.

The Pom routine followed suit — literally — with each girl wearing white suits and slicked-back buns. The maroon poms made the colored pop behind a sea of black and white.
