Ramapo’s men and women’s track teams sprinted towards victory on Friday, posting personal bests and securing top spots at the Coach Pollard Invitational hosted by Moravian University.
Senior Zoey Cassavell set a new personal record after clocking in at 4:29.20 in the 1500m race — a time that also happens to be the third all-time in the program’s history. Sophomore Kiera Gregory grabbed a 10th place finish in the 5k, finishing at 20:22.69.
Sophomore Ashley Gordon competed in the 100m preliminaries and in the finals, clocking in at 12.79 seconds for eighth place and 12.57 seconds for fifth place respectively. Gordon also ran the 4x100m relay alongside fellow sophomores Jianna Gorospe, Mia Perez and freshman Bryanna Shepperson, with the group acquiring a combined time of 49.95 seconds.
Junior Ryan Pena placed second in the 800m run, lowering his personal best to a time of 1:54.79, a time tied for sixth best in program history. Senior Mohamed Nidaazzi ran the 5k in 15:58.85 for a seventh place finish.
Sophomore Logan Natale clocked in at 49.27 seconds in the 400m dash, ending in sixth place and tying for fourth best in program history. In the 400m hurdles, juniors Matt Suero and Colin Unis both ended in the top 10 with 54.60 seconds for second place and 57.18 seconds for ninth, respectively. Suero’s second place finish is also the second best mark in the program’s history. Junior Anthony Gentile clocked in at 22.60 seconds for a ninth place finish in the 200m dash.
Senior Sebastian Pross and junior Braden Holm competed in the hammer throw. Pross finished in second with a mark of 166′ 8.25″ while Holm secured fifth with a mark of 154′ 5 ½”. Holm also grabbed third place in the shot put with 48′ 6.25″ and junior Nick Palmadesso collected 168′ 11.5″ in the javelin throw for ninth place.
The men’s 4x400m and 4x100m relay teams will next compete at the Penn Relays on Friday. Both teams will head to Vassar College for the Vassar Spring Invite on Saturday.
