Ramapo’s Cahill Career Development Center hosted a Roadrunner TableTalk for members of the community looking for information on careers in marketing and public relations (PR). The talk was a part of the career center’s initiative to help students excel in their chosen career fields.
The event featured marketing professionals and Ramapo alumni Tony Cambria, working in marketing and sales enablement at Stryker, Nicholas Lipere, a senior account executive for Chain Store Age and Cristina Cristea, a digital marketing strategist from Lynton. The talk also featured Stacey Cooney, an assistant vice president at Coyne PR.
The TableTalk was hosted in the Pavilion, where students were given a nametag and a number — one through four — before entering. The number corresponded with a table and throughout the evening, Cahill’s four featured professionals rotated through each table presenting a PR or marketing problem for Ramapo students to solve.
“I definitely got a better understanding of what a typical day in the life would be for a marketing or PR professional,” said Olivia O’Keefe, senior communications arts major. “Personally, the event made me feel a lot less confused about my future.”
The situations presented ranged from where a marketing company should start advertising to consumers, to how one might handle a scientific study that might affect a media campaign. Students got a taste for what a career in marketing or PR might look like, while getting to brainstorm solutions to the presented problems with their peers.
At the end of the event, food was served and students were encouraged to stay, converse and network with Cambria, Lipere, Cristea and Cooney. Students were also encouraged to connect with them on LinkedIn.
