Ramapo College women’s softball team dominated NJAC rival, New Jersey City University after sweeping the team 2-0. The pair of road wins sets the teams conference record to 2-2 and after another pair of wins this Wednesday the team moves to 13-7 overall.

The Roadrunners played out of their minds on Sunday, not letting the New Jersey City Gothic Knights score one run. They kept their foot on the gas for both games scoring a respectable five runs in game one and an impressive eight runs in game two.

The ball didn’t leave in-field for the first score of the game as the Roadrunners proved you don’t need power to win games. Junior Shannon Cox recorded the first hit of the sixth inning with a bunt single. Freshmen Krista Verrino added to the damage when she continued the bunt-streak that resulted in a Gothic Knights error and Cox moving to third base.

It was sophomore Harper Patsko who finished the bunt-barrage when she put down a bunt single to bring Cox in for the first score. The Roadrunners didn’t let up in the win with the team belting out 12 hits and starting pitcher Erin Fitzsimmons striking out eight and allowing only two hits in six innings.

Ramapo freshmen Jackie Howarth put up an MVP-type performance in the win, going completely perfect at the plate (3-3). Ramapo ended up scoring four runs in the sixth inning and completely put the game away with one run in the seventh to earn their first NJAC victory of the season.

But the Roadrunners weren’t done flaunting their domination over the Gothic Knights as the team was able to have an even better game two. Not only were the Roadrunners able to put up another shutout against the Gothic Knights but they did it while recording eight runs of their own.

Howarth recorded the first score of the second game when she displayed her unrivaled speed by stealing third and even stealing home when The Gothic Knights overthrew the ball.

In the fifth inning the Roadrunners showed no mercy to their NJAC rivals as the team put up an astounding five runs on four hits.

Led once again by Howarth who scored three runs and finished 2-3 while backup pitcher Christina Brizek led the team with three RBI’s and was 2-4 with one run under her belt. And Ramapo starting pitcher Katrina Buczkowski struck out six, walked one and scattered four hits in the shutout victory.

Ramapo College displayed the same level of dominance against Mount Saint Mary College who they were also able to beat this past Wednesday. The team now moves onto 13-7 and has won the last four out of their last six games.

Now the team must find a way to keep the same energy and passion they’ve displayed in the past week and use it against their NJAC rivals who they will play for the remainder of the season, including games against William Patterson and Stockton.

The Roadrunners look to continue their success this Saturday when they go up against The College of New Jersey in Ewing Township.
