The first few games of the MLB season are on the board with baseball making its return this past Sunday.

The New York Yankees opened their season with a 7-3 loss in the first game of their series with the Tampa Bay Rays. Masahiro Tanaka was the starting pitcher with seven earned runs in only 2.2 innings pitched.

The next game for the Bronx Bombers went well as CC Sabathia pitched five shutout innings in a 5-0 win. The runs came from two RBIs from Ronald Torreyes and Chase Headley and one from Matt Holliday.

The Yankees ended the series on a less than ideal note with another loss stemming from Michael Pineda’s four earned runs in his 3.2 innings pitched. This is not the start Pineda was looking for as he was on a 10-game streak of starting without getting a win, a streak that is now at 11.

The New York Mets got off to a better start with a 6-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves. Noah Syndergaard gave up only five hits in six shutout innings, while Lucas Duda drove in a game-high three RBIs.

The first game was a positive sign but was followed with a 3-1 extra innings loss on Wednesday night to the Braves. Mets right fielder Jay Bruce knocked in a run in the fifth inning, but the Braves soon leveled the score in the seventh inning.

The game was at a stalemate until the 12th inning where the Braves drove in two vital runs that in effect ended the game.

Both New York teams look to get back on track, but it is a long season ahead with only three games played for the Yankees and two games played for the Mets.
